8am-10pm All Welcome, Enter Through the Atrium
The CONTINUUM exhibition highlights two artists at different places in their career continuum, India Solomon and Matthew Giffin.
India is a new young artist and designer at the rise of her career. Self taught and growing her presence and craft quickly and meaningful in Detroit, in this show we see how India has grown and evolved since her first show at Nicole Tamer Art in 2021.
Matthew, alternatively has a decades long career in which he has established himself as a visual artist, illustrator, art director and designer. CONTINUUM presents a dynamic series of paintings spanning their respective careers. Through these works, we can see the full spectrum of each artist’s practice and yet no matter where they are in their career continuum each blank canvas they return to a new beginning filled with the promise of presence and growth.
Additionally, the show will include works by young Detroit artists, at the very onset of their artistic continuum. The pieces in this collection were created during an art workshop led by India Solomon with the youth of Developing Despite Distance, a nonprofit that supports young men of color, ages 10-24, currently impacted by parental incarceration. Proceeds go directly to the young man who created these pieces.
This winter we are showcasing four artists Matthew Giffin, Mattie Armstrong, Loralee Grace and Andrew Blake, in addition to student work by participants from Developing Despite Distance.
